Since 1993, FOHNEU has brought together occupational health nurses, researchers, policymakers, and industry partners from across Europe and beyond through its international congresses. What began as a small gathering in Brussels in 1997 has grown into a major European platform for sharing research, shaping policy, and strengthening the profession of occupational health nursing.
Over the past three decades, the Congress has travelled across the continent — from Strasbourg and Helsinki to London, Tarragona, Rotterdam, Budapest, and most recently Cork — reflecting FOHNEU's pan-European mission and the active engagement of its member associations.
The most recent edition, the 8th FOHNEU International Congress, took place in Cork, Ireland in October 2025 under the theme "Leading the Change," and was held under the patronage of the European Parliament — a recognition of the growing importance of occupational health and well-being on the European agenda.
Each Congress reflects FOHNEU's core Aims in practice: raising the profile of Occupational Health Nursing within the European Union, promoting training, education and professional standards, and encouraging research through the sharing and publication of results. By bringing together nurses, researchers, policymakers, and EU institutions in open dialogue, the Congress also embodies FOHNEU's commitment to maintaining a constructive relationship with the EU organisations responsible for health, safety, and public health across the working population.
